Maiava, a freshman from Stockton, California, established a USC record by scoring four touchdowns in a single game. His first touchdown came on a 4-yard run in the first quarter, followed by a 10-yard scamper in the second quarter. After halftime, Maiava added two more touchdowns, one on a 5-yard run and the other on a spectacular 40-yard reception from quarterback Caleb Williams.
Maiava’s performance was part of an impressive offensive display by the Trojans. Williams passed for 300 yards and three touchdowns, while wide receiver Jordan Addison added 108 receiving yards. The offensive line provided excellent protection, allowing Williams to complete over 70% of his passes.
USC’s defense also played a pivotal role in the victory. The Trojans held their opponents to just 225 yards of total offense and forced three turnovers. Linebacker Shane Lee led the defense with 10 tackles and one interception.
USC head coach Lincoln Riley praised Maiava’s performance, stating, “He’s a special player with a bright future. His ability to find the open lane and finish runs is remarkable. We knew he was capable of a breakout game, and tonight he proved it.”
With its impressive victory, USC has now won two of their last three games and improved to 5-3 on the season. The Trojans will travel to Arizona next week for a key Pac-12 matchup against the Wildcats. A win in that game could put USC in a strong position to contend for a berth in the Pac-12 Championship Game.
