Charles Barkley has never been afraid to speak his mind, and he didn’t hold back when asked about the Los Angeles Lakers‘ handling of Bronny James.
In an interview with ESPN, Barkley said that the Lakers had made a “huge mistake” by not signing Bronny James, the son of LeBron James, to a contract.
“It’s an absolute disaster,” Barkley said. “They had a chance to get one of the best players in the country, and they blew it.”
Barkley believes that the Lakers were too worried about having to pay Bronny a large contract. He said that the Lakers should have been willing to pay him whatever it took to get him on their team.
“He’s going to be a star in this league,” Barkley said. “The Lakers are going to regret this decision for years to come.”
The Lakers have defended their decision not to sign Bronny James. They have said that they believe he is not yet ready to play in the NBA and that they are not willing to pay him a large contract.
However, Barkley does not buy this argument. He said that Bronny James is more than ready to play in the NBA and that he would be a valuable addition to the Lakers.
“He’s got the size, the athleticism, and the skill to be a star in this league,” Barkley said. “The Lakers are just making excuses.”
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Bronny James. He could still end up playing for the Lakers, but it is also possible that he will sign with another team.
One thing is for sure, though: Charles Barkley will continue to criticize the Lakers for their handling of the situation.
