San Diego County Wildfires

California experiences wildfire threats year-round, but the dry fall and winter seasons pose an elevated risk. Santa Ana winds carry dry air into the region, creating conditions that can rapidly spread wildfires.

Here’s an update on the current wildfire situation in San Diego County as of January 21, 2025:

Mission Valley Fire

A brush fire ignited around 12:30 p.m. near the Fashion Valley Mall in Mission Valley.

Lilac Fire

This fire began near Old Highway 395 and Lilac Road in Bonsall at approximately 1:20 a.m. Tuesday. It has burned approximately 80 acres and is currently 30% contained. The cause remains under investigation.

Pala Fire

Sparked near Old Highway 395 and Canonita Drive in Fallbrook, the Pala Fire spread to 17 acres before firefighters brought it under control. The cause is still being investigated.

Poway Fire

A brush fire erupted along Pomerado Road on Monday around 1:20 p.m. It quickly grew to 3 acres and threatened nearby homes before crews were able to halt its progress.
