South Carolina Gamecocks Dominate LSU Tigers to Stay Undefeated

The South Carolina Gamecocks proved their dominance once again on Wednesday night, defeating the LSU Tigers 66-56 to maintain their undefeated record in SEC play and extend their home winning streak to 69 games.

The Gamecocks took control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Tigers 18-8 and building a 10-point lead. South Carolina’s defense was exceptional, shutting down LSU’s transition game and recording a season-high 11 blocks and 13 steals. LSU, averaging 90 points per game, was held to just 56 points, its lowest-scoring output of the season.

South Carolina’s depth proved crucial in the victory. Freshman Joyce Edwards contributed 14 points, four rebounds, one steal, and one block. Sophomores MiLaysia Fulwiley and Tessa Johnson combined for 17 points. Senior Sania Feagin had an all-around performance with 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, and three blocks.

South Carolina’s Defense Shines

The Gamecocks’ defense was the driving force behind their victory. They held LSU to just 29.9% shooting from the field and forced 17 turnovers. LSU’s top scorer and rebounder, Aneesah Morrow, was held to just four points and fouled out in the final minute. South Carolina’s defense was particularly effective in the paint, blocking 11 shots and altering many others.

LSU Struggles to Find Rhythm

LSU, the pre-season favorite to win the SEC, had an off night in Columbia. The Tigers struggled to find their rhythm offensively, shooting just 37.1% from the field and committing costly turnovers. LSU’s usually potent offense was held in check by South Carolina’s swarming defense.
