With Limited Minutes, Purdue Basketball's Myles Colvin Stays Ready

Colvin entered the season with high hopes after an impressive freshman campaign. However, the emergence of seniors Trevion Williams, Zach Edey, and Mason Gillis has limited his minutes significantly. This season, he averages just 5.6 minutes per game, down from 12.4 last year.

Despite the reduced role, Colvin has maintained a positive mindset. “I understand my role on this team,” he said. “My job is to be ready when called upon, and I’ve been working hard to stay in shape and sharp.”

Head coach Matt Painter has praised Colvin’s dedication in practice. “Myles is a great teammate,” Painter said. “He’s always ready to work and pushes his teammates. He’s an important part of our team, even though he’s not always on the court.”

Colvin’s preparation has paid off on the few occasions he has seen significant minutes. In a win over Wisconsin, he scored 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting in just 10 minutes of action. “It felt great to contribute like that,” Colvin said. “I’ve been working hard for it.”

With the Boilermakers potentially losing Williams and Gillis to graduation next year, Colvin could be poised for a more significant role in 2023-24. “I’m excited for the future,” he said. “I’ve learned a lot from my teammates this season, and I’m ready to take on more responsibility next year.”

The Purdue Boilermakers are currently 15-3 and 6-2 in the Big Ten Conference. They face rival Indiana on Sunday, January 22nd.
